Who: Grant Strombeck (1938) is a seasoned musician who has a history of involvement with film, music and video under the tag of experimental. Attention to sound is the way most musicians experience their world. Strombeck has.been a drummer/percussionist for fifty years. The work here is a mix of listening, seeing and otherwise.

What: Aurally intentioned video and otherwise. . . accurately describes the approach and thinking process of this work.

About my tags: Missing the mark amid the tangle of terms—adventurous, audio art, asynchronous improvisation, avant garde, conservative, contemporary, cutting edge, experimental, free improvisation, free jazz, fringe, independent, interdisciplinary, jazz, mainstream, masterpiece, minimal, modern, post-modern, progressive, retro, underground—and so forth. In the end all of these tags and terms miss the mark.

“Whatever you say it is, it isn't.” —Alfred Korzybski

Where: Based in Chicago Illinois: Grant developed this web site to present video works in a sympathetic context, namely, it is a context without annoying pop-ups and commercial interruptions from the video hosting services used. This is a space set aside to maximize the listening/viewing experience over against the reduced quality from the camera original, which is unavoidably introduced by video compression required for web viewing.

When: Right now! Videotherwise.
